I’m going to start trying to get these up sooner so the events information
isn’t out of date by the time I post it.
The June meeting of BMAC came to order shortly after 10AM at Pikes Peak
Harley Davidson with 36 members in attendance. This was our best
attendance since I’ve been counting.
July Events:
• July 13-14 – Riverside/Phantom Canyon Run – this is the rescheduled event
that was canceled in June due to weather.
• July 19-21 – Triumph in the Rockies 2019 – Montrose. This is a fun event
attended by a few BMAC members and is open to anyone interested.
• July 28 – The annual BMAC Club BBQ/picnic will be at Frank Puckett’s home
as usual. This will be held in lieu of the normal July meeting, and there
will be an organized ride from Monument to Frank’s, starting earlier that
morning. Details TBD from Gary.
August Events:
• August 10-16 – Speed Week – Bonneville -Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah
• August 24-29 – Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trial – Formerly BUB
The club said farewell to local motorcycle legend Barbara Manka today. Several
club members attended the memorial service this past Sunday, which packed
the Biker’s Church with over 250 mourners, and featured an honor guard of
at least 120 motorcycles. Several club members shared stories going back
decades. She will not soon be forgotten. The family asked for donations
to the Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Museum or the Humane Society, Barbara’s
favorite charities.
Denise finally brought her 2001 Nuclear Red – don’t call it pink – Speed
Triple that we’ve all heard so much about. It’s a very well-done late
model restoration, and she will never lose it in a parking lot.
George presented his upgrade of a Triumph 4-speed transmission to 5 gears.
There was some discussion of a charity ride for Barbara, and it was pointed
out that the club has lost other members as well. The discussion
coalesced around the idea that the annual July picnic ride would become a
combined charity ride in memory of all our members who have passed. The
motion carried.
After the meeting, Gary took nine of us on a long ride up through Deckers
to Pine and then back around through Palmer Park.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Baker
