OBR 23 is on Sunday September 12th from Golden, CO. The guidance on what you can ride is the same as recent years: the moto should be 25 years old or more unless you are 75 years of age or more, or if you are a person of the female persuasion or if you are driving a sidecar.
Based on my observations of recent editions of this event, we are trying a shorter route this year, about 52 miles over many of the roads in the foothills that we’ve been using the last few years. Hopefully we will not have so many people bailing out along the way. Saddle time will be about 2 hours if you ride at a modest pace. With two 15-minute breaks we will be done after about 2-1/2 hours, ending up at the Dirty Dog Roadhouse in Golden. We will be starting from the usual gathering spot in downtown Golden at 9:30am so I expect we will be arriving at the Dirty Dog around noon.
We will try a try two-wave approach for riders this year. The 25-year rule means that some folks may be riding seriously fast machinery and yet we hope to see many vintage motos that triumph merely by being rideable. Riders who know these roads well and prefer an exhilarating pace will have the option of leaving first. After 5 minutes or so, Hans Gross will lead those who prefer a more sedate clip or who want to avoid having to navigate the route themselves. I will bring up the rear with the sag wagon.
The web page for OBR23 should be uploaded soon and you will find more information there.
