President’s thoughts & Story time

The first thing I did when I parted ways with the Army was to use my separation pay for the purchase of a motorcycle. It was May of 1968 and the motorcycle was a 1965 XLCH Sportster . I paid the guy $1100. for it. It came with a small seat and a big seat, a small tank and larger H model tank as well, a set of two into one high pipes for off road and the shorty duels for street, even had a set of fiberglass saddle bags, all factory stuff. It was just about the right size for a small guy like me. With 900 cc’s of raw power this thing was fun. There was no battery to mess with and no ignition switch. Just kick it over and the magneto fires things up. The lights are on only when the generator is spinning. It was basic, about five wires for the lights, and one to the kill switch to shut it down. For the next 52 years owned and rode a kickstart Sportster. Now I’m Sportsterless, it was just time to move on (or maybe let go.

I guess I’ll try the five Jumbo Shrimp from the truck this time at the meeting. Christine and I went out to try the food from whatever truck was at the Black forest Brewery on the second Saturday of the month. It turned out to be Lucy’s Armenian and Mediterranean (Greek) food. We had a Gyros and a chicken something wrapped in a pita bread, both were delicious, and she delivered it to us at the table. Most of us have always purchased something to eat at the meetings because we can always eat and because it supports our host. The brewery needs the trucks on weekends so I’m sure our patronage there is appreciated. I’ll bring it up again at the meeting.

Jim Wear has sent me another email concerning the Super Show. It seems that entries are way down this year. The club won’t be putting on a group display this time but if you have a bike that you would like to show then Jim would love to here from you. I don’t have a link for the show but I’m sure Google does.

Be sure to print up a copy of the events schedule and mark dates on your calendar. If you have any thoughts you would like to share bring them to the meeting. If you can’t make the meeting (I know you want to be there) send me an email and I’ll pass it along

See you on Saturday,
